Our History

Many residents of the town of Colonial Beach recognize the bearded man behind the familiar "honk, honk, beep beep" of the Colonial Beach trash truck. That man is Bill Taylor. Over the years, Bill began noticing that some senior residents were having difficulty maneuvering their trash cans to the curb. Wanting to help, he and his crew began assisting those who needed a little extra support. Before long, more and more seniors were asking for assistance.

During this time, Bill’s wife, Becky, suffered a serious accident that resulted in a shattered ankle. Throughout her recovery, Becky reflected on how fortunate she was to have family available to help with her daily care. She began thinking about others in the community who might face similar challenges without family or friends to rely on.

Together, Bill and Becky began visiting residents along Bill’s trash route who needed assistance. It quickly became clear that the need extended beyond taking trash cans to the street – many seniors simply needed companionship, an occasional meal and someone to check in on them.

On November 7, 2022, Becky began speaking with a group of individuals about forming an outreach effort to support senior residents who were alone. As she shared the vision, more like-minded community members expressed interest. On December 5, 2022, a meeting was held with community leaders in Colonial Beach. Fifteen individuals (including clergy, law enforcement, Town Council members, EMS personnel and other concerned citizens) gathered to discuss the mission. From that meeting, a community-based Facebook group called Neighbor2Neighbor was formed.

Colonial Beach Neighbor2Neighbor, Inc was officially established as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization on January 17, 2023.
